چکیده
The present work reports the phytoconstituents in essential oil and four different solvent extracts of Cinnamomum tamala leaves. Their antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant potential were also evaluated. extraction was performed by hydro-distillation using Clevenger apparatus its chemical composition identified gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). leaf obtained cold percolation method. Linalool cinnamaldehyde (E) major compounds oil. Phytochemical screening revealed presence terpenoid, glycoside, tannin, reducing sugar, polyphenol, saponin, flavonoid, alkaloid. Total phenolic content (TPC) total flavonoid (TFC) quantified Folin-Ciocalteu Aluminium chloride colorimetric assay, respectively. methanol extract (98.36 mg GAE/g) ethyl acetate (90.44 showed higher TPC values. Similarly, TFC value (478.78 QE/ g) than other extracts. activity assessed a 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay which high efficacy. chloroform antifungal against Candida albicans, while only Shigella dysenteriae.

Pharmacological and pharmacognostical aspects of Cinnamomum tamala Nees & Eberm
This study emphasizes detailed information of the plant, Cinnamomum tamala, (Buch.-Ham.) Nees & Eberm (Lauraceae) which includes habitat, description, medicinal uses, phytochemistry, pharmacological profile and safety aspects. The etymology is derived from the Greek word ‘kinnamomon’ (meaning spice). The Greeks borrowed the word from the Phoenicians, indicating that they traded with the East fr...
متن کاملEvaluation of in vitro antioxidant activity of Indian bay leaf, Cinnamomum tamala (Buch. -Ham.) T. Nees & Eberm using rat brain synaptosomes as model system.
The study investigated the perturbation of oxidant-antioxidant balance in brain synaptosomes of diabetic rats and determined the antioxidant and free radical-scavenging property of the Indian bay leaf. Brain synaptosomes were isolated from control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic animals and oxidative stress parameters were assayed. A methanolic extract of bay leaf (BLE) was tested for the p...
متن کاملAntibacterial, Anti-Diarrhoeal, Analgesic, Cytotoxic Activities, and GC-MS Profiling of Sonneratia apetala (Buch.-Ham.) Seed
Fruits of Sonneratia apetala (Buch.-Ham.), (English: mangrove apple, Bengali: keora) both seeds and pericarps, are largely consumed as food besides their enormous medicinal application. The fruit seeds have high content of nutrients and bioactive components. The seeds powder of S. apetala was successively fractionated using n-hexane, diethyl ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The f...

OBJECTIVE The current study was designed to explore anxiolytic, antidepressant, and antistress actions of Cinnamomum tamala (CT) leaves (aqueous extract) in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Behavioral procedures of anxiety, depression, and stress were assessed in rats. CT (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) was given once a daily for 7 days via oral route and the efficacy was matched by those elicited by lo...
متن کاملCallus Mediated Organogenesis and Plant Regeneration of Cinnamomum Tamala Nees. (lauraceae) from Leaf and Zygotic Embryos
Cinnamomum tamala is a multipurpose economically important plant. The leaves and bark are used as spice and contributes to the different ‘Ayurvedic’ drug preparation. Due to over-exploitation for spice and medicines, the species is vulnerable in its natural habitat. In the present study, a successful attempt was made for callus mediated plant regeneration of the species from leaf and zygotic em...
